Photos from Mount Shaw
Photos taken from the summit of Mount Shaw on a late winter day. The image of Lake Winnipesaukee was taken from the southern slope on a trail called Black Snout. Black Snout is the ridge just beneath the summit. The photo of Mount Chocorua with Mount Washington in the background was taken from the summit of Mount Shaw, facing northwest. Today was unbelievable in many ways. The hike was incredibly challenging, with ice falling everywhere, snowdrifts up to the waist, a brazen, hungry coyote, and breathtaking scenery at the top that made the struggle worth it. More great photos will follow in the coming days. I would have given my left arm for the snowshoes I left in the basement.
Mount Shaw is a prominent feature in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, located along the northern and eastern shoreline of Lake Winnipesaukee. It’s the highest peak in the Ossipee Mountain Range, an ancient volcano with a collapsed ring dike. The range also features Dan Hole Pond, a small but extremely deep natural wonder that I’ll save for future posts.
